Gilgit-Baltistan is a year-round destination — but each season shows a completely different face of the mountains.
Spring (April–May)
The valleys explode with cherry and apricot blossom, especially in Hunza and Nagar. Days are mild, the high passes are still snowbound, and the crowds haven't arrived. Perfect for photography and gentle valley walks.
Summer (June–August)
Peak trekking season. The snow melts off the trails, base camps like Rakaposhi and Fairy Meadows open up, and the Karakoram Highway is at its most reliable. This is also when the famous Shandur Polo Festival takes place on the world's highest polo ground.
Autumn (September–October)
Many travellers' favourite. The poplars turn gold and crimson, the air is crisp and clear, and the peaks get their first dusting of snow. Ideal for jeep safaris and shorter hikes.
Winter (November–March)
Quiet, cold and magical. Lower valleys like Hunza stay accessible, offering snow-draped forts, frozen waterfalls and unbeatable stargazing.
